Newark Charter School (NCS) is a public charter school located in Newark, Delaware that serves children from kindergarten to eleventh grade. 1,950 students were enrolled in the school for the 2014-15 school year.〔(【引用サイトリンク】publisher=Newark Charter School )〕 The school uses the Core Knowledge curriculum. The school is open to all residents of the state of Delaware. If the number of applications for any openings in the school exceed the space available, a lottery is used to select students. The lottery gives preference to siblings of children already currently attending the school and that will be in attendance the next year, siblings of children conditionally accepted by the current lottery, and children residing within a five-mile radius of the school. ==History== Newark Charter School's charter was approved by the Delaware State Board of Education in April 2000, and the middle school opened in September 2001. Shortly after the school opened, their students voted "the Patriot" as their mascot after the September 11 attacks. The charter was renewed in June 2004.
